AGE AND QUALIFICATIONS.

I am 35 years of age and am a Fellow of the Surveyors'

Institution having passed the intermediate and final examinations

in the building subdivision several years ago; in addition I hold

a special supplementary certificate from the Institution in the

subject of Valuations,

PRESENT APPOINTMENT

My present position is that of Assistant to Major Walmsley,

the Superintending Inspector of Works in the Chief Fagineer's

Office, Victoria Barracks, tok up this appointment immediately

on demobilization, early in 1919, after 4 years active service,

my previous position with the Inland Revenue not having been kept

open for me.

During Major Walmsley's absence on leave this last summer I

held the position of Acting B.I.W., and in the course of my two

years service in the Colony, have acquired a fairly comprehensive

knowledge of local prices and customs in the building trade.

DATE SERVICES AVAILABLE.

My agreement with the War Department, which I am not renewing

expizes on 30th April 1921 and under the terms of the agreement,

which entitle me to a return first class passage to Europe, I am

proceeding home by the "Empress of Japan" on May 17th next.

Apart from the fact that I do not feel disposed to sacrifice the

the return passage provided me by the War Department and under no

circumstances would the War Department allow me to avail myself of

it at a date subsequent to the date of the termination of my

services with them I cider that after 2 years here, following

directly on 4 years active service in the East (3 being spent

to

the

in Mesopotamia), were I take up a new appointment, without first

securing a short holiday at home, I should not be able to do it

Justice on the grounds of impaired health.

If, therefore, you should decide to favour me with the appointment I would undertake to be back in the Colony by Septembe and I would further undertake to secure and pay for my own return
